David Hansford

Bio

Born in Dorset, England, bass David Hansford studied at the Royal College of Music International Opera School, and lives in Bergen, Norway.  David has performed extensively across the UK, with roles including Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte in several productions, Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer, Colline in La boheme and creating leading roles in numerous contemporary operas.   

Since moving to Norway, he has featured as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (Lera Auerbach’s The Infant Minstrel, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia, the Thief in Grieg’s Peer Gynt), Bergen National Opera (Yamadori/Bonzo in Madama Butterfly, Montano in Otello and Tsar Ivan in Candide), Bergen Cathedral Choir (Jesus in Johannes Passion, Christus in Matthäus Passion, Monteverdi’s Vespers, Rautavaara’s Vigilia, Handel Messiah and Jesus in Arvo Pärt’s Passio), Collegium Musicum (Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Bach’s Wiehnachtsoratorium) Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (Yamadori in Madama Butterfly) and the Philip Glass Ensemble (basso profondo soloist in Powaqqatsi).
